Recruit (identify need, create role description, create training, create recruiting text, find or take photo/video, find places to post or share). Is this challenging for you? You are not alone according to surveys in our field. I’ve been there too! There are several factors to review.

What are you asking volunteers to do, for how long and how often, where, with whom? What is the role description? How is it being presented? Where and how? What pictures/illustrations/people are shown? Where is it posted? If attracting younger ages, posting a flyer on the library bulletin board may not be the correct placement/method.

Think about who you are trying to attract. What appeals to them? Why are you looking for that “persona”? Are there others you hadn’t thought of that might be able to help? In the posting/request to volunteer what will appeal to the person you are trying to reach? 

What will the volunteer get out of it? What impact will they be making?
